Overview
For my senior year capstone project, I have been developing an initiative since my freshman year of college, unlike most who begin in their final year. My project involves leading a nonprofit organization called Pave, which collaborates with businesses and partners to promote a sustainable future through the harnessing of piezoelectricity. Our mission is to drive sustainability forward and educate others about the benefits of piezoelectric technology, showcasing its potential to make the world more sustainable.

The Piezoelectric Effect is when certain materials can create electricity simply by being squeezed or pressed. These materials, called piezoelectric materials, generate a voltage when they are subjected to mechanical stress, like pushing or bending. This happens because the stress causes a shift in the material’s internal structure, leading to an electrical charge. This electrical charge can then be collected and used to power devices or generate other forms of energy.
WHAT IS PIEZOELECTRICITY?
The PAVE logo features a color palette of blue and gradients, reflecting its emphasis on technology and science. The design includes a stylized 'P' that incorporates an arrow, symbolizing progress and the forward movement of the organization's innovative efforts.

PAVE Science Fair
The PAVE Science Fair is a competitive event held in high schools around the world. What sets the PAVE science fair apart is that all projects must use the scientific method to explore a hypothesis related to piezoelectricity. The fair spans an entire school year, with students meeting weekly after school. These sessions focus on piezoelectricity, sustainability, and provide opportunities to collaborate with experts while developing a functioning piezoelectric project. At the end of the year, after completing their projects and studies, one finalist will be chosen, and PAVE will work to implement their idea in their high school. PAVE provides all necessary materials for participants to carry out their projects.
